SHA Beef Share Sizing Guide
How much beef should you order and how much freezer space do you need? Let's break it down and help you make the right decision for you and your family.
Our beef typically has an average finished weight of 1,500 pounds on the hoof and yields a 61% hot carcass or hanging weight. From this we typically get another 61% yield for packaged beef ready to fill your freezer. This means our 1,500 pound cow produces roughly 560 pounds of delicious Akaushi beef!
The above graphic should help you understand and visualize how much beef our bulk shares produce and how much freezer space is required.
Most homes with a standard top freezer refrigerator can easily accommodate a 1/16th. Bottom freezer refrigerators can squeeze in a 1/4 beef share but there will not be much room for other items. A chest freezer or stand up freezer is best for larger beef shares.
Our beef shares are estimated to contain 25% steaks, 45% ground, and 30% large cuts. Special requests can be made for marrow bones and select organs.
If you are picking up your beef directly from our local butcher, please estimate approximately 1 quart of ice chest space per 1 pound of beef.
